Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a gearbox repairer in Sydney who is experienced in our toys?

Ian

Like Willy, I have found Richard at Traction 4 in Artarmon knows 4WDs inside out. I have had my 80s since new and it still feels & drives like new thanks to some astute diagnosis and realistic advice.

Don't bother if you want cheap - you get what you pay for, but he knows when to use genuine and non genuine parts so that you get value for money, and gives you the choice.

Good luck

Hi Ian,

Depending on the clunk, it could be the backlash in the front hubs.

If you get onto Ebay and do a search on 80 ser front hubs you should come across Hobzees 4WD Shop and he has a good description of the problem I am talking about.

Then again your problem might be something different altogether.

If yours is the same problem I have described then it is the backlash in the splines between the CV joint and the drive plate which bolts to the outer hub thereby transfering drive to the wheel.

Hope this helps.

Gazal.

should have added that this backlash makes it feels like it is in the transfer case.

Thanks for the thought but it is a DX part time 4wd so the front hubs play no part in the problem in 2wd. Ian
